Festival Volunteers Nara is looking for a large number of volunteer workers for the upcoming festival. Volunteers workers will receive a very nice official rally jacket, shirt, hat, metal rally plate and much more as a volunteer on this event. As this is a Northwest event, we expect that a majority of our volunteers will come from Washington and the area directly around the state, BUT we would like to have as many of the people in North America who currently work on rallies also participate. We can promise you a good time, with our compelete schedule of social events, including a Rodeo, Potlatch, Welcoming Party, etc. In addition we expect a number of WRC cars to be running our rally. This event should be the largest rally event ever conducted with the largest prize fund of any rally in the world. YOU are invited to attend a help officiate the event. Crews: Stage Crews get to pick a name for their crew; NARA will supply each member of the crew with a rally jacket, shirt, metal rally plate, and hat. NARA will manufacture special patches for each stage crew for their jackets. These will be iron-on type patches. Start Crew: Timer,
Starter, Judge of Fact, 2 Runners, Stage Captain, Information Manager (transmits
scores to server via communications system, Ambulance & Tow Truck Crews. Finish Crew: Flying
Finish Timing crew (2), Timer, Assistant Stage Captain, Scribe, Information
Manager, 2 Runners. Road Marshals: number
varies with each Stage Captain. Job Descriptions Stage Captain:
Acts as the top official in the Stage Crew, responsible for assisting the event
safety manager in working out details of escape & entry routes for emergency
vehicles, establishing heliport locations, etc. for the overall safety plan.
Training for the various other positions is carried out in real time
training as necessary to get everyone qualified in the conducting an FIA stage. Assistant Stage Captain: The top official at the flying finish line.
Must be completely familiar with the safety plan, and emergency
procedures. Timer:
clocks in the cars as they arrive at the ATC, and assigns each car a start time
for the stage. Starter:
Starts the car with a count down from 10 seconds prior to start.
Uses the official rally start flag to start the car at the top of the
minute. Starter gets to keep the
flag after the event. Judge of Fact:
The JoF is the official at the start line that determines if a car has a
early start. The JoF decision is
final and only the JoF can alter this decision.
(Serious Position!). Runners:
Runners run between the competitor’s vehicle and the timing station
with the car’s timing book. Information Manager:
Works inside the official timing tent and transmits arrival and start
times for each car directly to the rally headquarters using a laptop computer
and a cell phone. (Computer usage
experience is necessary Ambulance and Tow Truck
Crews stand by if they are needed. Flying Finish Timing crew:
time the competitors as they pass the flying finish line.
These times are transmitted to the Information Manager/Scribe and this is
relayed to the competitors. Scribe:
the person who places the label on the official timing book, showing the start,
finish and overall time on the stage. Rally Marshals:
the most important job on a rally stage.
Road marshals will be assigned intersections on the rally stage.
It is the responsibility of the Road Marshal to check out the various
exit and entry routes from main roads to their intersection.
In case of an emergency the Road Marshal will handle the on site
emergency until assistance arrives. Road
Marshals will take a first aid class in order to qualify for these positions. Parc Ferme Crews:
Work with the event
Parc Ferme Officer to setup Restart Controls, and Parc Ferme on each day of the
rally. (8 positions)
Service Area Crews: Work with the events chief scrutineers during tech inspection in the Key Arena in the inspection of the competitor’s vehicles. During the event, work at service area’s to oversee the work being done by the various teams. Enforce all regulations that are in effect during a service stop for competitor’s crews and vehicles. Technical knowledge, and experience in maintaining automobiles is necessary for some of these positions. Secretariat:
Rally Secretariat is the office maintained at the headquarters of the
event to directly interface with the competitors, media, spectators, etc.
The Secretariat is open for long hours each day of the event.
Knowledge of the events regulations and time schedule is necessary. Media Center Crews:
This is the staff position for the Media Center, the hub of the media
presence of the event. Members of
this crew will be responsible for working with the world wide press attending
the event. DNS Crews: This is the Central Nervous System of the event. Crews for the DNS will be working the information flow of the event, chat sessions, media releases, information, videos, pictures, etc. A through working knowledge of the NDS system will be required. The NDS will be gathering information from all sectors of the event in real time. Scrutineers: Steve McQuaid (Chief of Scrutineers) is looking for some experienced mechanics to work as Scrutineers. Scrutineers will keep the competitors in line with their car preparation and will be in attendance at any changing of turbo-chargers during the event. Familiarity with the FIA technical regulations is a must. NARA can provide these regulations upon request.
