The "Promise of the Internet" Digital Nervous System (DNS) Virtual Participation: The ability to actively participate in an event in real time as an active participant interactively from any point on the planet Earth using the World Wide Web. Past: As of the last world Olympics, which had one of the largest web sites to date, there were no virtual participants on the Internet. Until they are capable of placing a camera on the shoulder of a gymnast during a tumbling run, the Olympics remains a spectator event. Future: July, 2000, NARA provides the "promise of the Internet" with an International Motorsport Festival that puts the web surfer into the competing cars as a Virtual Participant in a rally car for the four days of exciting racing action in the mountains in the State of Washington. Virtual Participants can ride with their favorite team as a team member. Net Participants can interactively Chat with their teams in real time, and they can customize the content they wish to receive, Virtual Participation for MILLIONS! Digital Nervous System (DNS) The Promise of the Internet "The standard by which all others will be judged." The DNS is accomplished with a paradigm shift in web design and structure and establishing a unique communications system covering the entire event provided by the event's communications companies - ICON Communications, Nextel and Motorola. The system then has to used to provide customizable information to millions of Virtual Participants in real time. Multicast video from inside the top cars will covert web surfers into Virtual Participants while they 'ride with the teams!' Information is distributed via E-mail which will include pictures, stories, scores, transcripts of Chat Sessions, and current standings and media notes as requested by the Virtual Participants. Virtual Participants will also be able to join in a "chat" with their favorite teams during the event. Coming to a computer near you July, 2000!
