Jamaica Motor Club All-Tarmac Stages Rally
99
On Saturday 14th August some of the fastest drivers in the island will take the
start of the JMC All-Tarmac Stages Rally 99. This pace-note event, will have
competitors running 22 stages in Clarendon, Manchester and St. Elizabeth with 13
stages on Saturday, with 9 additional stages on Sunday for a total milage of
523km of which 160km is competitive.
Route -Day 1- The cars will start Saturday morning at 9:00 am from Heavens
Texaco, Mandeville and proceed to the start of Jackass Hill (Clarkes Town to
Mark Post), this fast, down hill 4km stage will be a good warm-up for the ever
popular Skull Point.
Skull-Point (Skull-Point to St. Paul via Green Hill), 8.5km, which is mainly a
'white-stone', will test the drivers abilities of car control, especially if it
rains, good spectating at Green-Hill. The cars then transit by Medina to
Buy-Land.
Buy-Land (Lyndhurst to Somerset via Coley Mountain), 4.8km, very tight stage,
with no room for error.
The competitors will repeat these stages and then go to service/lunch halt at
KFC Mandeville. The event will continue by running the stages in reverse
with Buy-Land Reverse being the first. They then transit to Harmons.
Harmons (St. Ago to Reeves Wood via Harmons), 11.12km, this ever popular stage
which has been run over the last 3yrs has become a favorite of the competitors,
spectators and locals. Good spectating at the 'tyre' in Harmons and at the
Football Field. The cars continue to Whitney Estate.
Whitney Estate (Whitney Turn to Mount Pleasant), 3.58km, a nice little Hillclimb
which will see the turbo cars exercise their legs. Good spectating at Whitney
Estate. The cars continue back to Harmons and then repeat the Whitney Estate
stage. The finish is at Heavens Texaco at approximately 8:00pm. with competitors
over-nighting at the Mandeville
Hotel.
Day 2- The cars will restart from Heavens Texaco at 6:00am and GO TO Canoe
Valley, Alligator Pond.
Canoe Valley, Alligator Pond, 13.0km, the more technical of the coastline
stages, good spectating at Alligator Hole.
Rocky Point, Alligator Pond, 7.2km, the fastest stage of the rally, with corners
that just flow one into the other. The competitors continue to Kinnoul in the
Santa Cruz Mountains.
Kinnoul (Upper Warminster to Kinnoul via Russels), 9.1km, another very nice and
technical stage with 2 big jumps at Hopeton. Spectating at the Hopeton School
and at the Russels intersection, park near the intersection and walk into the
stage. Next is Malvern.
Malvern (Big Woods to Retirement via Malvern Well, Ivor Cottage), 13.0km, what
can be said about this fast, fun stage that has not been already said. Good
spectating at Malvern Well were the cars will be approaching an acute right a
top speed and Ivor Cottage, a good vantage point were the spectators see the
cars along the Hounslow main 6-8
minutes before they see them again almost to the top, one the best spectating
spots of the rally. Next is Retrieve.
Retrieve, 4.3km, the loop, this little stage starts and finishes in the same
place; good spectating along this stage with ample parking. The competitors will
go from this stage and run Kinnoul once more. They then GO TO lunch at the Big
Woods Primary, to then repeat Malvern and Retrieve then Kinnoul Reverse. After
the last Kinnoul, the cars will proceed to Fayors Night Life in Mandeville for
the finish at about 4:00pm.
Competitors - Montego Bay, although no entries have been received, we expect to
quite a contingent from Montego Bay, being lead by MBMC President Andrew
Forstythe and co-driver Tanya Thompson in the Honda CRX 'Migraine'. From the RMS
Team, we expect to see 'Stratty' King and 'Stuffy' Chambers in the KFC Evo 3
with backing of his team in the form of Richard Rerrie/Neal Baugh in 'Project
Magnum', 'Chippy' Addison in his Evo 3 fresh from his win on the 'Tony's Pizza
Rally'. EVO 6s' - Will the new Evo 6s' be out ? We are almost certain that Doug
Gore & Mark Nelson will be leading the trio of Evo's from the 2nd city in
the Team Mo-Bay 'The Cure' Evo 6, 'O.T' Townsend & Kirk Lee in the Hertz Evo
and 'Shampoo' in the Quic-Aid Evo providing back-up. Supporting this formidable
cast from Mo-Bay will be 'Filette' Barnes in the Quic-Aid Evo3 'Gangreen', Dean
Corrodus - Marmlarmar Evo 3, Dale Delaphenia - Delaphenia's Evo 4, Junior Madden
- Evo 1
Leading the Mirage contingent will be Rory King in Mirage MIVEC. It said that
Rory will have this class to himself as it is rumored that Matthew Gore has
graduated up in class with a Subaru WRX to show big brother how it is really
done, I wonder if team orders will apply?
Debut - Jeffery Panton & John deMercado will be debuting their latest
weapon, the Uni-Motors, Castrol sponsored, Toyota Celica ST-205 (what a
mouthful), this is the car/driver combo that came 3rd on the recent Grande Forte
Rally in Guadeloupe and the defending champion for this event. Will they take it
home? Hope it doesn't rain. Supporting Jeff
from Kingston is Chris Shim /Anthony Auyoub in the CPS Toyota Starlet Turbo
'Barney', Duncan Stewart / Stephen Fitt in the Stewart's Auto Swift Turbo. Which
car will David Jr. be driving? Evo 6? Evo 2 ? Only time will tell.
If you need more information on this event or any other JMC event, please feel
free to call the Jamaica Motoring Club Secretariat at 906-7200.

JMC All-Tarmac Stages Rally Results
The team of Doug "Hollywood" Gore
and Mark Nelson driving a Mitsubishi Evo 6 have won the 1999 edition of
JMC All-Tarmac Stages Rally which was run over 2 days, on stages in the parishes
of Clarendon, Manchester and St. Elizabeth.
Gore & Nelson won the event with a time of 1:34:02, with Richard Rerrie/Neil
Baugh in 2nd, 6 minutes 34 seconds a drift and Dale Delaphenia/Matthew Gore
14:12 behind the leaders.
Jeffery Panton/John deMarcado who where the leaders for most of day 1, ran-off
and handed the lead to Chris Addison/Sean Williams the new over night leaders.
Addison started day 2 in the lead with Gore 34 seconds behind. Gore, who
now saw a chance to win, turned up the wick and put the pressure on Addison with
series of stages wins and cut his deficit to 3 seconds by the end of the 5th
stage. Addison succumb to the pressure and ran off on the 6th test thus handing
the lead to Gore.
The JMC would like to thank, the Marshals, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Moore's
