Entry to the NARA Motorsport Festival

&

Assistance to Teams and Organizers

I receive the following e-mail from Llana Rosenshein
John,

On your website, you state that you reserve the right to restrict entries and turn teams away (or something similar to that). I need to know what the likelihood of that occurring is. I am in the process of securing sponsors to get myself out to Seattle (actually getting me there is easy, get the car there is the costly bit), and I am concerned about whether or not I will actually be running, or if my entry will be denied. Because, while Jenn and I make a fairly good looking team, my car is a 92 Suzuki Swift GT, an older production class car, and I can understand how it might be bumped from the entry list for a flashier newer car.  So, once again, my concern, is that likely to happen?

Thanks for your time,

Ilana J. Rosenshein

My Comments

1)    Preference will be given to:

    a) WRC Entries

    b) North American Entries (National Entrants)

    c) International Entries

    d) Club rally entrants

2)       We are holding 120 entry positions for the rally, so I do not expect this will be a problem.  (20 additional for the Ford Celebrity Rally)

3)       With the prize fund of $1,260,000.00 paying ten deep in class should assure that everyone who finishes should receive a large paycheck for competing. Check out the all female crew prize fund!

4)        Entry Fee is $600.00.  Teams will get a $400.00 refund upon passing through scrutineering and the balance will be donated to a charity in the team’s name (tax deductible), therefore there really isn’t any entry fee, although we will not accept any entry without the entry being paid.  All entry fees are placed in a escrow account.

5)       We are willing to assist teams with securing sponsorship for this event to cover their other expenses.  We will be preparing a pre=event packet that can be used by entrants to secure sponsorship to the largest rally in North America (an maybe the world)

6)       NARA has posted on the web site(http://rally.click2site.com) a copy of a PowerPoint presentation produced to assist teams that may be looking for sponsors.  We will be updating and adding to this page for your assistance.

7)       We will provide any information such as television coverage, estimated spectators, amount of media hits, and other useful information on an on-going basis.

8)       We will try to support the competitors as much as possible.  It may become possible to supply a number of nights in a hotel as part of the entry package.  We are talking to a number of hotels in the area.  We mayl be able to supply you with a free rental car from Hertz, and possibly two tickets on American (round trip) to offset the costs involved.

9)        We are working with Pirelli  on becoming the N.A. warehouse for rally tires, a stock of these tires is included in our sponsorship proposal.  We may be able to offer an extremely good deal on tires for competitors.

10)    Hella is another of our sponsors and entrants will have the ability to purchase the newest and brightest in rally lighting at an extremely good price.

11)     We also have American Airlines as a sponsor (product sponsor), so we may be able to supply two round trip airline tickets to Seattle with each entry.

12)   You the competitor are the rally, you are the show, and you are what make this event possible.  Without entries we have no event.  NARA feels that the competitors should not pay for the event, but that burden lies with our sponsors.

13)    In putting together this event NARA has done a complete paradigm shift in the concept of organizing a rally.  We have designed this event to have a large amount of television coverage and an incredible impact on the Internet and the use of the Internet for a Motorsport event.  NARA expects 100’s of millions of hits on this web site.  We expect to put up a number of mirrored sites to carry the load.  We have entered into a tentative agreement with Qwest to provide us with essentially unlimited access to their worldwide fiber optic network, which will allow us to provide multicast videos, pictures, text, and a whole lot more to the entire world.  See the Digital Nervous System page for a more detailed explanation.  Remember you can have your sponsor hooked up to the DNS system so that they will get information, photos, results, and the latest news on the rally in a real time mode during the running of the event….  NO OTHER EVENT IN THE WORLD PROVIDES WHAT THE DNS SYSTEM WILL DELIVER!

14)    If you miss the October NARA Motorsport Festival, you will miss the opportunity of a life time.  You will get to meet world class rally drivers, talk with the factory teams, and develop friends and contacts that you can use for the rest of your life.  I’ve been there, done that and want to go back….  Trust me, a true International Rally is something you never forget.

15)    We all hear that the SCCA wants to hire the Australians to put on a WRC in North America.  The truth is that the FIA contacted NARA over a year ago with an invitation to return to the WRC.  When we talked with them we told them would need some exceptions (i.e. we mix gravel and paved stages in the same leg, rally length, television (as the WRC isn’t on network TV in North America, etc.  They told us that Africa gets lots of exceptions and there is no reason that America couldn’t.  They also told us that manufactures would make “rally able” cars available in North America if we would continue on our quest for a WRC position.  We are already seeing this, this fall the RS version of the Ford Focus, and Mitsubishi’s, Subaru’s, etc. all will become available to competitors.  It’s not easy to get on the WRC and it may take a number of years… we are in this for the long haul.  I still have no idea why the SCCA National Office “round filed” our sanction application.

16)    The FIA controls all electronic media on the WRC, which is a real problem with one of the sponsors that we are currently working with (Microsoft).  This alone could stop us from getting on the WRC.. It's a long haul and lots of mediations with the FIA.  We will keep you informed of our progress.

17)    We intend to assist other organizers in North America.  Ford wants us to take the Celebrity Rally to other events during the year to help promote rallying in North America.  Organizers interested in this program please contact NARA so that we can begin planning for year 2000.  We are already working with the organizers of the Rocky Mountain event in Canada.

18)    Television coverage: Fender Concert Series (VH1 two concerts – 2.5 hours each), Celebrity Rally – KOMO Television will cover the training rally and broadcast this the evening of the Welcoming Party and will cover the start ceremonies and first super stage live the day the rally starts.  SpeedVision will provide a 60-minute film of the Vintage Rally, and USA Network will cover the International Rally.  We are currently working on television coverage of the Classic Car Show on MS Campus the day of the rallies start.  In addition the rally will have 8 local radio stations throughout the state of Washington, which will cover the rally in real time during the days of the festival.

20)    Official photographers will be using digital cameras and will be connected to our servers through the DNS system, and photos will be posted on the web site in real time.  Look for hundreds of exciting color full action photos of your favorite teams.

21)    Media Day- Press day, rides in rally cars.  This day is designed for the media, teams and the sponsors to give them the touch and feel of a rally car.  Media representatives will pickup the special Media apparel (Jacket, shirt, hat, metal rally plate, decal kit) at Media Day.  Media not attending are NOT guaranteed to receive these items.  Teams are invited to bring their sponsors to Media Day and to give their sponsors rides in the rally car.  Competitors SHOULD take advantage of this day… lots of great exposure to the media.  Bring you media kits, photos, etc.

22)    The United States of America is the greatest country in the world and is fully capable of organizing and conducting it’s own rally with existing organizers and workers.  Any member of other rally-organizing committees is welcome at the NARA Motorsport Festival.  It’s a big job, a great event and your chance to see a premier Motorsport event.  We would encourage the prime organizers of national and division rallies to attend the event.  We will give you complete access to the internal working of the rally and discuss additional support for your event on a “one on one” basis.

23)    We expect to have some of the best timing equipment, control signs, and collateral of any event in the world.  NARA will have a large format color printer (picture below - 6’ foot wide prints on 100’ rolls up to 1200 dpi resolution) which prints on a large number of media, including tyvek, canvas," crack and peel” for decals, control signs, warning signs, etc.  In addition it is capable of producing banners that are 6’ foot wide and 100’ long! (on canvas, or a number of other media)  This printer is available to organizers (cost of supplies is the only cost).   We will also make this available to teams for sponsor decals for cars and support vehicles.  We also will have a extremely fast printer (120 pages per minute) max size 11x17 full bleed) which is capable of four color printing and will print on card stock up to ¼” thick.  We will be using this to produce signs, arrows, etc. and the Rally News Service during the event.  This unit is also available to organizers of other events.  NARA will work with you, organizer may mail the original artwork or use artwork developed by NARA for collateral signage.

Check us out, we appreciate everyone's input, positive or negative...  I read all the mail messages, sometimes get to swamped to answer the 200-250 e-mails a day... but then their is that period from about 11:00 pm until 7:00 that's pretty open...  We are not trying to start a revolution, just implement a dream that I have been carrying around since 1988.....  We can make rallying work, if we work together and not work just in fractal parts.
